LOGOS -Ancient Crosses - RENAISSANCE CRUCIFIX

Crucifixes in this style first appeared in Italy during the Renaissance. They were more refined and ornate than medieval crosses, and were intended to show, in the richness of their style, the Lordly aspect of Christ’s divinity. They were more realistic than medieval crosses.  This gave them a greater power to invoke Jesus’ suffering on the forces, and to remind those who wore them that it is their sins that were the reason why Jesus had to be crucified. The letters INRI mean: “Hail Jesus, King of Jews”.  These were Roman words the Christians would say “Praise Jesus, King of Kings.”
