VEDA - The Vedic Collection - SHIVA NATRAJA

Nataraja means Lord of the Dance.  Shiva's dance is the dance of creation and destruction. In one hand he holds a drum called the Damaru.  It represents the principle of sound through which the Universe is created.  In the other hand he holds the fire of dissolution, called pratayagni.  Another of his four hands is in the gesture of protection, while the remaining hand points to his raised foot.  This way, Nataraja tells us that those who take refuge at his feet have nothing to fear.  Shiva is the God of destruction which goes before Creation.  He wears the moon in his hair, the symbol of waxing and waning.  To Shiva, time is just an ornament.  Shiva may be worshipped with the mantra: OmNameh Shiva.
