MITZVAH - The Hebrew Collection - THE CHAI

The Chai is a special Jewish sign that means life. The most commonly known example of this Hebrew word is in the Jewish toast "Le Chaim", which means - to life.  The Chai is made of two Hebrew letters Hay and Yod.  In the Cabalistic tradition where letters stand for certain numbers, the Chai stands for the number eighteen.  Jewish people often give gifts of money in multiples of eighteen.  The Chai is not an amulet.  It is not believed to have any intrinsic power of its own, rather, it is worn as a reminder that the gift of life is our most precious possession, and the greatest of all the gifts God has given humanity.
