VEDA - The Vedic Collection - LOTUS
Anyone who has seen a lotus flower emerging from a murky pond cannot fail to observe the beauty of this exquisite plant - always looking so clean and pure against the dirty background. In Sanskrit the lotus is called "Padma" and is held to be a flower with a thousand petals. In Hinduism it is associated in particular with Brahma, the god of potency and Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Its unfolding petals suggest the expansion of the soul. The growth of its pure beauty from the mud of its origin holds a benign spiritual promise. In Buddhism, the lotus is symbolic of purity of the body, speech and mind. While rooted in the mud, its flowers blossom on long stalks as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. It is also symbolic of detachment as drops of water easily slide off its petals.
