Bronze Pendant - Saint Patrick

St. Patrick, the “Apostle of Ireland”, is the patron saint of the island along with Saints Brigid and Columba. Born in Roman Britain around 387 AD in a priestly family, he was not a believer at first. At the age of sixteen he was captured by a group of Irish pirates. While in captivity, he worked as a shepherd and strengthened his relationship with God through prayer eventually leading him to convert to Christianity. Managing to flee from captivity he returned to Britain and continued to study Christianity, eventually returning to Ireland as a Christian missionary. There he taught the pagan Irish about the doctrine of the Holy Trinity by showing the people the shamrock, a three-leafed plant sacred to pre-Christian Ireland. Shamrocks are, thus, a central symbol for Saint Patrick’s Day observed on March 17, the day of his death around 461 AD.
